Default Hey Canadieish people
What's the deal with smoking pot and driving in your far away land? Is it legal to?

I can tell it's on the tip of everyone's tongue in the debate - about how you don't hear about people who are high on weed getting in accidents, but you can't stop hearing about the drunktard hitting some people in another car.

It's not legal and the current government isn't fond of it. Fiveish years ago the previous government was going to decriminalize possession of small quantities but lost power before the law made it through. Our medical program is run federally and is difficult (though possible) to get into without a fairly serious condition.

On the plus side, decriminalization is supported to some degree by every party except for the guys currently in power, along with a small majority of the population. Assuming the Conservatives don't manage to keep themselves in power forever, laws will probably tend in the right direction in the not-too-distant future, but you're making progress faster than us.

Do you say that because of California? Because I really doubt the country as a whole is going to go anywhere with it, and the best we can hope for is some sort of ruling that let's states decide for themselves.

I think Denver decriminalized it.

And I thought that in Vancouver they had too.

http://www.cannabisculture.com/articles/4570.html yeah looks like Denver legalized it a while ago. I wonder why people haven't taken it in other cities/states based on the logic there because it looks like the government admitted weed is better for everyone involved than alcohol.

my old roommate got held at the us/canada border trying to leave canada (going to oregon i think) for possession late last year... it was a pretty small amount, i think maybe like a j and a half. honestly i think they only stopped him cause he looked like a dirty hippie. he fessed up straight away and was detained overnight, everything got confiscated and they told him not to come back.

Whoever thinks driving while on pot should be legal... is insane. I'd rather drive drunk than high.

Well, it's not the first time you're completely wrong.

That's because when you're drunk you think "This is so fucking easy I don't see why the law has a problem with this!"

And when you're high you think "OHSHITOHSHITOHSHITOHSHITOHSHITOHSHITOHSHITOHSHITOHSHITOHSHITOHSHITOHSHITOHSHIT".

I'd rather have the second mentality, although driving either way is pretty fucking dumb.

I know some people who smoke and drive because it calms their nerves about driving. I don't see anything wrong with being a little high while driving.

Eh, it depends. I mean, I've driven while intoxicated on many things, and it's a stupid thing to do generally. Sure, a little high (like a little drunk, ie within the legal limit) is fine, but driving while under the influence of anything is pretty irresponsible.

That said, my driving is generally the same when I'm high, except a little worse. Occasionally, I forget to yield/stop at the right places, but Peniscola has fucking awful transportation planning.
