How was bun_bot conceived? Did you actually use snippets of her real posts, or what?

Yes. I edited here and there, but they are all in her history. It was mostly Jenius' idea. >_>
Here's the code history, with my code and his fork: http://github.com/JeremyBanks/vbbot/network

I guess I'm going to edit your patches into my old copy of the bot, then try to add some more functionality, and maybe commit it to git.

You prolly added my only as a commiter, as I don't have a clue how to log in really. :V

Also, github times out way too much, I hate reading manuals, and I thought there was something in the TOS that prevented the use of pseudonyms. Basically, I have no clue. :V

Not only is full name required, it also wants you to not adblock.
You prolly added my only as a commiter, as I don't have a clue how to log in really. :VI didn't add you as a commit to the repo, I need your ssh public key to do that; I just put your name on that commit; one can do that.

Man it's unfair I was away when it went online.
The Bunbot Funding Bill is passed. The system goes on-line August 4th, 1997. Human decisions are removed from strategic defense. Bunbot begins to learn at a geometric rate. It becomes self-aware at 2:14 a.m. Eastern time, August 29th. In a panic, they try to pull the plug.
And Bunbot fights back.
This is how I feel about this.

Soon none of us will even need to post, there well be a naga_bot, and a pk_bot. oh the humanity!

so i'm thinking that it's probably possible to make a bot that responds to anything resembling innuendo with :rip:

Under an hour.
Fonzy
02-17-2009, 08:56 PM
37 minutes according to it's posting history.
mrs_bun
02-17-2009, 08:56 PM
Oh wow, okay then that is a lot of posts. My best streak was my first day, and that was like ten an hour.
Okay, it now supports logins using usernames and passwords. This eliminates the need to manually look up password hashes in your cookies, but requires an additional request to the server to get a session cookie, which isn't saved in any way yet. I've also bothered moving the `main()` that actually does stuff into a separate file (as it should have been), which should make merges entirely automagic if you've just been tweaking that file.

Wait, you created a stock set of messages and had this bot post one randomly in threads. And we couldn't distinguish it from bun?
wat.

Bun bot will now only bump posts in the Random General forum by request. It's also somewhat slower, but I've held off the idea of half hour delay for now.

"By request"? Wat?

Zerg suggested to implement that.

What is there to explain about the words "by request" other than who requested it?
mrs_bun
02-18-2009, 06:20 PM
So what, someone can request a post, or request a post in a specific thread, or request a specific post, or request a specific post in a specific thread? Or something else?
Cee Pee
02-18-2009, 06:22 PM
No, they can request a feature. Zerg requested to add this feature, so I added it. Get it? :V
Nobody can request anything right now, not even me; it just runs randomly.

Can you make it post more in threads where there is less activity, but then also post more in threads where people have replied to its posts recently?
Cee Pee
02-18-2009, 06:29 PM
Can you make it post more in threads where there is less activity, but then also post more in threads where people have replied to its posts recently?
It replies to threads in the new posts page, so it currently only posts in active threads. I could remove that, though. It has no AI to distinguish whether people replied to it.

Does it just search my posts to generate its post, or did yall attach a list?
