I realize that I probably never told most of you the story of our epic weekend in Regina.

If anyone feels like reading something excessively long but incredibly amusing to me, here you goes:

On Friday night, right after getting into town, we went to the Corb
Lund concert. We were, as expected, late, but the concert started a
bit late as well so we didn't miss very much. It was pretty awesome,
though I hadn't realized how much drinking there was at country
concerts. (Aside: At the concerts I've been to here so far, rather
than having a bottle of water on stage most preformers have alcohol.)
So Laura and I are outside, waiting for our cab, while Josh is back
inside on the phone or something. This very friendly, very drunk
fellow starts chatting with us; after a bit he starts raving on about
this party he's going to, and keeps asking us to come along. We resist
the offers of alcohol and drugs and fun, stating (truthfully) that we
had to meet Matt downtown. We are joined shortly by Josh and a group
of this guy's friends. We chat for a little while, until one of them
asks if any of us are sober. Obviously, we all were, and said as much.
He jokingly remarked that it's too bad we weren't allowed to drive
(we'd been talking about Katimavik, and there was some
miscommunication about the rules), because they couldn't, really. Josh
points out that actually, he just got his Saskatchewan driver's
license.

"BOOM! Beamer!", the guy shoves a set of BMW keys into Josh's hands.
Ha ha ha, that's entertaining but we think it's probably mostly a joke
until we actually start walking towards the parking lot. Oh my. Our
Hotel is downtown, and so is their party, so we'll go park it there
(he originally said at the Casino, but we told him our hotel and he
said should park it there instead). Sounds good, saves us some cab
fare, keeps them from crashing themselves, sounds fun. We all pile
into the car. I was the last, fourth person in the back seats, there
was nowhere near enough room, so this part of the drive was pretty
painful. The car was a nice (apparently $70k) BMW crossover SUV,
though pretty dirty. When the doors are shut the owner, who was in the
passenger seat yells "Now turn on the 4-wheel and just GO!". While I
think that the car could probably have handled the curb reasonably
well, the tree on said curb would probably have presented a larger
challenge. With an "um, I don't think so" Josh pulls out, and we start
driving. Since we've been in the city for a whole few hours, the owner
gives Josh directions.

After not too long, he tells him to stop. Hmm. This is certainly not
downtown, this is decidedly residential. Apparently this is where
the/a party is. Oh, that's just great. The three of us are starting to
freak out a bit, since we figure they'll probably want us to go in and
join them, and we're don't really know where we are and such. Nope,
that's not what happened. They all piled out, and after a few quick
words with Josh, left us alone with the car. The nice, seventy
thousand dollar luxury car. We also have no way to contact them,
because the first guy we were talking to refused to give us his number
if we wouldn't go party with them.

After sitting there in shock for a few seconds, the screaming begins
-- "WE'VE GOT A FUCKING BMW!" -- and we take off. To my slight
surprise, it seems that Josh is actually a very good driver, which is
good, because we would not want to damage this car. We put in a CD
that we bought at the concert, turn it up pretty damn loud, and ride
around downtown Regina, phoning everyone we could think of (and it
would be suitable to call) to scream excitedly about what was going
on. One of the most entertaining points was when Josh slowed down the
car as we were passing some people getting into theirs, rolled down
the window and screamed "Some random drunk guy just lent us this car!
Wooo!", and sped off. Their expressions were pretty priceless.

After a little while, we pick up Matt from the Casino. He's made
friends with some random person there, who gave us a brief tour of the
city, before we drop by the offsale and then park the car at our hotel
parking lot, as requested.

When we leave the next morning, around noon, the car is still there.
Oh shit, he said he'd get it in the morning. We move the car to a more
visible location, then take a cab to the Science Centre. By the most
amazing coincidence I've seen in a long time our cab driver, who was
very nice, had had the guy who lent us the car as a passenger that
morning. She picked him up at the Casino, where he was looking for his
car. Holy crap. He probably didn't remember very much from the night
before. So that night we take the car over to the Casino parking lot,
and spend half an hour waiting for a good spot, visible from the
street. We leave a note in the console, explaining what happened.

We check on it the next morning. It's still there. Fsk.

We check on it in the evening, right before we go to the bus depot to
get home. It is STILL there.

We were planning to phone the police to mention that if it was
reported stolen, it wasn't, but on the bus when we were planning to do
so we realized that we had forgotten to take the license plate or
anything, so that wasn't really an option.

So, that happened.
