This is why Tarmogofys are lame.

So resolving spells hit graveyard before sbe are checked for death? That's cool I guess.

Yeah. I hear it was a common screwup for people to try to Tarfire a Goyf with empty graveyards during Time Spiral-Lorwyn Standard, only to have someone break them the bad news.

Why would wizards print this card anyways? It's a 2 mana for something that's probably a 3/4 at worst most of the time. It's not even GG, it's 1G right?
They're trying too hard to make this a creature oriented game, it's lame to destroy control in the process imo.

As a side note this wasn't mws but I had a hilarious game the other day. This person plays this 3UU sorcery that's like bribery but worse (it reveals cards from the top of an opponents deck until it hits a creature, puts it into play under their control and throws the rest in the yard ) but I had no creatures in my deck so he decked me. Then eot I was like beacon of destruction and I totally rode it to victory.

Yeah it's one of those cards that shouldn't have been printed as it was. It's like honest to god they don't playtest sometimes.

It's good. Hell, it's great. It still isn't as good as other two drops. Not even as good as a couple 1-drops.

It's still retarded and broken. Not broken enough to warrant any rules against it (probably, I dunno I don't play srs magic) but 1G for something that strong is ridiculous and is totally not well costed at all.
Wizards won't print a drawbackless 3/3 for 1G and this is obviously stronger. It's simply above the curve. It's a creature so it can be handled, but it's clear there's something fundamentally wrong with it.

It's balanced because every major kill spells takes it out. Terminate, Terror, Smother, Snuff Out, Deathmark, etc.
And while no one will argue that it's properly costed, it's hard to argue true brokeness. It's just the epitome of efficient beaters.

Just for argument's sake, name me a couple 1- and 2-drops that you would run over Goyf, assuming no color restrictions.

This is why it'll never be accurately said that that Goyf is a "broken" in the sense that cards like Skullclamp or Memory Jar are broken. This is why this card irks me so much though. Everyone who says, "dies to removal" or "lol vanilla beater" is exactly right, but this still pushes creature power levels too far. Not too far to be called broken, but far enough to be ubiquitous and obnoxious.

Goblin Welder, Goblin Lackey, Dark Confidant. There is no more efficient beaters, but some creatures do serve other purposes much better.

I'll deal with this one after my final.

See that's the thing, though. You wouldn't necessarily replace any of them with a Goyf or vice versa (Confidant toes the line I guess), because they play completely different roles in a deck.
