These are among the greatest ideas ever.
You get one land, 3 commons, 1 uncommon, and a random card.
So you basically spend 33 cents per card. With no guaranteed rare.

Stupid Magic General thread. (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=1145275)
Who: WotC
What: Budget Boosters of Conflux
Where: Target/Wal Mart only, in place of tourney packs, theme deck precons, good versions of fat packs, and they now stole a common and put in a land.
When: Just now.
How: MaRoian decree.
Which: Conflux cards.
Why: Economy killing them.

I don't find this as stupid as I should. Probably has something to do with not playing for years. :P

I want to buy these packs and sell them to children for three dollars, personally.

Winner.
I don't like the product, but I'm not going to buy any of it, so meh.

To me this seems exactly like what happens when a seasoned player rips off a newbie for their fetchland or whatever in a trade. WoTC is just praying on ignorance and it feels underhanded.
I don't play magic anymore though so I guess it doesn't affect me.

All arguments about whether they will sell or won't sell or who they will sell to or whether or not established players have a right to be angry they're pushing a product that blatantly rips off inexperienced players aside, this is yet another shortsighted business decision that might turn a small profit increase for them, but ultimately isn't going to solve the underlying problem this game has with retaining players and keeping them buying more product.

Wow, half the price for about a third as many cards. Great job, Wizards. (I can still get boosters for $0.60 on the dollar from online stores.)

Or you can NOT buy boosters at all, unless you're drafting.

All companies do this. If you buy six-pack of pepsi it will cost you more money per pepsi than it will if you buy a twelve-pack, yet people still think that this is "ripping noobs off."
This is a great way to get more moms to impulse buy something their kids want, and a great way to get new players involved in the game.
