Changes to Extended! As Extended currently was, it was from Mirrodin block to the most recent, which is Zendikar. Every year the last block rotates, and a new one comes in. Sounds good, right?

You would be wrong.

Our overlords, I mean protectors, decided that that wasn't very good at all. Now, extended is from TIME SPIRAL (until October when that rotates, in which Lorwyn becomes the most recent set) to Zendikar.

So what does this mean? Pretty much all decks that were played in extended are dead. Ravnica duals will crash. Certain cards like Chalice, and Explosives, will as well.

Bah.

They changed it last year, so instead of three blocks rotating every three years, now one block rotates everything year.

But this completetly blindsided everyone.

That's because you played Vintage. I think it would make things interesting as there would be a huge change and prevent things from being stagnant like gobs-solidarity-thresh was for years. Plus, wotc makes more money that way.

I figured that either they would come out with some kind of Legacy Lite or Overextended really soon, or people would be scared away from Magic because their cards would be worthless after four years.

After all, wasn't the complaining about the Reserved List driven by the fact that without Legacy being accessible, cards became worthless after seven years?

But apparently I'm wrong, and except for a few people complaining, most people are apparently OK with the change, and see no need for a "new eternal format". So, clearly there's something I don't understand.

Well, to be honest, if it was a separate format from Legacy (knowing Wizards it'll be named something "totally rad" like Renaissance or Silver) it could be okay.

Wrath of God, you mean? Wrath is now Day of Judgement, which is identical (still a sorcery), except without the regeneration clause.

I always hated the nonblack clause on terror and dark banishing, yeah I understand balancing removal but I want some compromise between it being really good (2 man destroy shit no save), to being a dead card in your deck. I always thought things like non spirit or whatnot was far more reasonable, because you'd almost always have something to use it on.
