What a stupid ÷÷÷÷ing movie. I'm so glad I don't smoke pot anymore and therefore don't find garbage like that amusing. I hope for everyone's sake that no one here actually liked this movie.

What was so stupid about it?

I mean, what did you expect?

James Franco is the gem of that movie.

Yes, that's exactly what I expected.

Dolt.

What was so stupid about it?

I mean, what did you expect?

I expected a movie that was in some way funny and/or amusing. Instead it was just a strange stoner fantasy that didn't really make any sense.

Also, sorry if I offended anyone who smokes. I didn't mean to imply that smoking would necessarily make you a complete idiot.

I never saw this movie.

I mean, sure the premise is stupid, but did you like Seth Rogen's other films?

I liked Superbad and Knocked Up wasn't completely awful. 40-Year-Old Virgin was pretty funny too even though that was more a Steve Carrell vehicle.

Doesn't it, though?

That's from Voodoofest, right?

Garrett and I are pretty dexed and stoned out of our minds in that picture. There was one point during the night where I blew out some pot smoke in the general direction of the constellation Orion, and the smoke swirled to match Orion's form. Shit was rad.

rad.

lulz

Yeah, that's from Voodoofest. During the Mars Volta's set, countless bowls after arriving at the place.

You didn't find any of it funny or amusing? Really. Fonzy, I think you're getting old.

See that's the thing, though. I normally like stoner movies. Cheech and Chong? Genius. Half-baked? Outstanding? Dude, Where's My Car? Very amusing. This movie just felt like it tried too hard. I could tell where they wanted me to laugh but I never did. There might have been one thing I laughed at in the whole movie and I can't even remember what it was now.

Anyhow, I'm watching Burn After Reading tonight. Hopefully I'll enjoy that movie more.

I went with friends and we watched it sober, and really enjoyed it. I'm thinking since a lot of people didn't like it that much, you need to be in the right mood (or high).

This was my thought. About halfway through I was thinking, "If I had some bud right now I'd smoke it just so I could enjoy the rest of this."

I just realized James Franco was also in the Spider-man movies.

This is important news.

If by stalking you, you mean, "read the Fark thread about superhero movies", then yes.

Pineapple Express is better sober than stoned. It was funny. The thing about those movies is that it's usually Seth Rogen and some other guy riffing off eachother, which can only go so far. Comedy these days has dipped far into the improv realm, and it's due for a swinging back of sorts. But, honestly, Fonzy, your opening post was so over the top that even you should find it embarrassing.

I thought it was really funny, actually. It's about the only Seth Rogan movie I really enjoyed. I could stand Superbad the first time, but repeat viewings leave me feeling ill.

I hate movies that rely on awkwardness or punishment of a "normal" person to try and pound the joke into your head. Go watch a Mel Brooks movie, and everyone is in on the joke in some way. Then compare to Arrested Development or The Office where every 30 seconds someone does something "wacky" that makes things incredibly awkward rather than letting the absurdity speak for itself.

Though I could have no sense of humor :V

You have no sense of humor and you're not a good person to decide what is awkward because you are terrible at that thing called "human interactions".

I'm totally with you there, I find the office, arrested development, etc funny at times but often I just cringe and feel awkward when watching it. I think most people wouldn't consider me empathetic but I hate watching people embarrassing themselves, it makes me feel embarrassed even if they're fictional.

Sounds kind of like you have a terrible, childish sense of humor, actually.Possibly a fair assessment.

It can be funny, but even the ones I do laugh at I'm in pain over the situation. I couldn't watch Juno past the "sex scene" because it was the most uncomfortable thing I'd ever experienced in my life. I think my junk actually retreated inside my body during that part.

Though I don't think it's something you can learn to enjoy, so fuck my life I guess.

I'm pretty sure most people who aren't retarded find things that are extremely awkward painful.

Awkward, ironic, self-conscious – whatever you want to call it – humor has, in my opinion been done to death. I watched a thing with Jack Black and Michael Cera on the "CURNT" channel that embodied everything bad about this brand of comedy –♥acting was poor, actors were not on the same page, they relied on the now-cliched uncomfortable "ummmm" moment far too often, and – the worst – the actors talking over eachother in their joke-telling, which indicated an amateurish lack of timing, intention and confidence.

Movies like The Hangover and Tropic Thunder lose their appeal when you realize that all the director did was film a bunch of guys improv-ing jokes and then splice it all together in the editing room to create some semblance of a plot. Tropic Thunder was the worst of these, it was nonsequitor gag after non-sequitor gag. Pineapple Express also falls into this category to some degree. I wouldn't call Juno awkward humor...I mean, I guess you could...but that movie rubbed me the wrong way because of the ultra-21st century hipster dialogue ("Brenda, yousa dick!"). That and there is no sixteen year old who is that emotionally/mentally mature.

Seriously. Is it just me, or does Michael Cera only play one character in everything he's in?

I heard once he complained about always getting type-cast. Uh...dude, show some range and maybe that won't happen?

I want to see him play Hamlet.

Speaking of Seth Rogan, go see funny people. It's the best thing I've seen him in.
