From October 2009:

WotC announced last tuesday that, starting January 8, 2010, they will be selling a limited supply of all-foil packs containing 15 foil cards from across the Shards of Alara block. The packs will cost $11.99.Source (http://power9pro.com/blog/2009/10/wotc-announces-allfoil-booster-packs/)

Because you all really wanted foil Marble Chalices.

Jimmy: "I liek to buy packs."

Jones: "You really should by singles instead. It's cheaper and packs are an expensive crap shoot that gives you unspecific product you most likely don't need."

Jimmy: "Fuck you, I'm going to spend money on packs of randomly arranged cardboard, but for triple the prices because I desire meaningless and game irrelevant reflective surfaces."

This is absolutely horrible and this is seriously the first time I think Magic actually is real danger of becoming irrelevant. Mythic Rare, stupid cash grab gimmicks, randomly ditching staples and reprinting them under new names...leadership at WotC is totally awful.

I knew about this before.

I might still play Magic, but this is pretty much the trend in terms of products.

Nah, 5-card packs was when I realized how hardcore they were selling out.

Magic is relevant?

I wouldn't say it's selling out so much as "shitting their pants and trying everything they can to prevent their business from going swirling down the drain". The funny thing about it is that every idea is worse than the last and they keep exacerbating the situation with ever ridiculous new idea they put out there.

I really do hope they tank. It will bring me great amounts of joy!

I hope they go to a not sucky way of doing business AND change the rules back. I'd play again if they did.

Best possible scenario: Magic tanks miserably, is bought out, new leadership is not group or morons
