I've decided I want to start reading the works of various economists. The problem is I'm the product of a MO public school so I don't know what the ÷÷÷÷ about things.
I've already read some Keynes and Friedman but beyond that I have no idea.

You could read Malthus and Weber and Smith (obvobvobv) if you're interested in classical economic thought, but it looks like your interests are more contemporary.
I actually have read The Wealth of Nations but that was way back in high school so I guess I should re-read it. The other two I haven't read so I guess I should.

Both? I'm doing it for myself, not for college or anything. I don't care how dry they are or anything though.

Beat me to it. Although I mean it less for serious belief in Rand's ideas (also because I'm only 700 pages in) and more to read it because she manages to distill, at least to me, the conflict we've got goign here: Profit versus social concenceness (÷÷÷÷ SPELLING). Don't agree with everything, but she does make some interesting points.
Now the question is, how serious was I?
Very good!
Not very.
But Fluke's right. You just have to take what she says with a grain of salt. Maybe a bit more than that. Make it a cup of salt.

Or I could not read that terrible WINONA RYDER WINONA RYDER WINONA RYDER book.
I've mentioned before I used to wank off to that stuff, but not really anymore. Her apocalyptic thinking got old for me. But yeah, profit vs social responsibility, government vs the market, a society built of parasites on the backs of the strong.
Or I could not read that terrible assshit book.
You don't have to. The important stuff of what she said had been said before.

I'm reading terry eagleton's Ideology: an introduction, right now. It's really ÷÷÷÷ing good- not economic, but very eye-opening. I recommend it!
