View Full Version : I wonder what WotC is cooking up this time

the forum has been down for a few weeks I believe? I wonder if they're implementing more upgrades (which is odd because they seemed content at upgrading one irrelevant thing per 30 days with the forum running). Or maybe they are scrapping it and reverting to the original (LOL if this happens). The other option is they have some brand new great idea that will blow our sox off! (like gleemax did).

whenever I try to go onto the website, it just redirects upon itself like 10 times on these two urls:
-https://accounts.wizards.com/remotel.aspx?redir=http://community.wizards.com/go/forum/viewcategory/75842
Then I get "safari can't open on this page blah blah blah"
I just tried with a proxy site and it's working.

Well, there is a wild rumor about an upcoming Duel Decks product from Wizards that has people saying that the end really is nigh this time.

Googled it, extremely disappointing. I was expecting Power Nine reprints or something.
They're just reprinting Phyrexian Negator, (http://forums.mtgsalvation.com/showthread.php?t=218662) which is on the Reserved List, meaning the policy is either dying or getting changed dramatically.
Who gives a damn really, I wasn't exactly clamoring for cards that aren't Standard Legal when lands cost $20 a pop.

^^
Well didn't they put some P9 into packs recently, though?

Google isn't helping at instant gratification, must try more random searches...

I actually could take a bus now to play card games in a tournament if I really wanted to for Magic. The thing is, it's expensive as Hell. I am not going to spend more than $40 to play competitive Magic. And even then, it seems like a shitty investment considering the fact the cards roll away in two years or get "metakilled."
If they wanted to make more money, they would make it cheaper and appeal to all the people they alienated over the years.

That was Zendikar, but those were real P9, and other old stuff, not reprints. Just read that someone from Germany opened a Tundra recently, so apparently they're even in the second printing.

Reeks of gimmick with no real impact. :/

The reserved list was a retarded policy for past 10 years. It was pretty much also totally meaningless and WotC could violate the crap out of it any time they wished, see: Juggernaut.
But yeah, it was stupid.
Also hate this new trend of removing old staple cards like Wrath of God and replacing them with similar cards.

I've been saying this for at least 4 years. Their business model is too cost-inefficient. My idea was that they should have made MTGO a monthly subscription service. So like $20 a month gets you 10 drafts and like 3 packs of any type 2 set or 5 random "foils" or something.

The recent decisions WotC has been making are all terrible.
As for MTGO: that's a better system, but my major problem with MTGO is I never feel like I have any real sense of accomplishment. With FNM's DCI points and later playing Regionals, I could have my pipe dream of future success. It just seems like MTGO is like hyper advanced casual with no long term goal. It's not like you can win a PT Qualifier on MTGO.
But I play card games for dumb reasons.

Reeks of gimmick with no real impact. :/That was actually the point. I think it averaged out to one "priceless treasure" per case (6 boxes), though most of them were worth more like $15 than $150.

They already do that in normal packs though.

They already do that in normal packs though.I know, but it would just be epically disappointing because you'd think the card was Ancestral Recall or something and it turned out to be a pile of crap instead. They'd have to use the old faces.
Also, card based on bad pun:
Ancestral Mox ; 0
Artifact
U, Tap: Draw 3 cards.

Also, back to my MTGO idea, they could even tie it off to the paper game. Like send you free packs in the mail or something for your monthly subscription. And have online FNMs that cost like $5 extra or something and online tournaments that can result in RL prizes. Seems like there's a lot of potential they could capitalize on to get people to play there and they just don't seems interested in exploring a more sane business model.

Yeah, I'd actually probably play MO if they did that. Totally genius.

I was hoping they had stuff like that years ago when I signed up for it and was really disappointed they didn't because there's not a lot of people that play around here.
